Have you ever met that person who came right when you needed them to? Or said exactly what you needed them to? Well, I have. Everytime I think of these people, I think of Barnabas.
I am pretty much sure that Barnabas is one of my favorite guys in the Bible. You want to know why? Because of the fact that he was SUCH a encourager! Not just at the end of the journey but especially before and during.
One of the first times we hear about this man, we find out he sales a field and give the money to the apostle(Acts 4:36), so what does that say about him? To me, this was support, we all believe in the same cause so let me help you.
Go encourager go!
Next, we zoom in to a man named Saul turned Paul, we know he was converted on the road of Damascus, than after some eye trouble, he trys to hang out with the disciples in Jersualem. NO WAY! They weren't believin' him. Until a man named Barnabus(Yes! That's our Barnabus)came and said hey he's good!
That's what an encourager does!
This week has been some of the hardest days of my 2-3 months here in college. Many days on the brink of tears, feeling like I couldn't do anything right.
Than I went to church and got flooded with a encouragement flying from everywhere. What a blessing! This is why community with the believers is so important.
In the Bible, Barnabus traveled alot, but one thing's for sure. Where ever he went he brought encouragement to the body of believers(Acts 11:22-23). He traveled with Peter and Saul too, I mean who wouldn't want an encourager on the team? Instant fill good stabalizer right there!
There was even an instant in Acts where Barnabus wanted to take a young man named John(Mark) traveling with them and Paul did not. Yet Barnabus continued to press for this and ended up traveling to a different location with John with him. Encouraging John that he could do this I'm sure.
What an amazing man, what amazing people are encouragers. It seems like encouragers can always seems to make the saddest days better, and always seem to say the right things. Definately, a God given gift. There are many out there who need encouragement, its not just limited to the college students out there. ;)
I hope that in my lifetime I have a chance to be a Barnabus to someone who needs me. Just as so many people have taken time for me to encourage me.
So next time you have a tough week, or day, be on the lookout for Barnabus' in your life.
